The results of the first stage are outlined in 8 files:

1. Tourist demand and accommodation supply 2000-2005 in K FACTOR regions.
The trend in GDP 2001-2005 (worldwide, EU, Italy, France and Spain); domestic and regional tourism demand: arrivals and presences 2000-2005; make-up of accommodation supply in the 6 K Factor regions.

2. Results of interviews with institutional and economic contacts of PACA and Catalonia regions.
In-depth studies on topics relevant to the development of tourism in the regions and intangible investments adopted at institutional levels in this sphere (for example regional partnerships and collaborations, research centres and institutions, new methods for conducting investigations, etc.).

3. Analysis of the impact of airport policies on tourism.
Results of interviews with  reference contacts at airport companies of Barcelona and Girona (Spain), Marseille and Nice (France) in which the trends, characteristics, strategies and policies of investments made in the sphere of airline transportation were reported and described.

4. Results of scrutiny of financial statements 2001-2004 for PACA and Catalonia.
Scrutiny of financial statements of 179 small-medium sized tourism companies for four years in which the type and amount of intangible investments, the relation between intangible investments and results obtained by companies are described.

5. Results of interviews and in-depth studies of PACA and Catalonia companies, reporting:
• how, when and why the companies have invested in intangible resources;
• results obtained from such investments;
• primary requirements, request for support and prospects for the competitive development of tourism.

6. Successful cases of agricultural-gastronomic companies connected to tourism in PACA and Catalonia
Interview of 8 companies operating in the agricultural-gastronomic sector, with a focus on the activities and initiatives related to tourism which have contributed to the development and consolidation of business.

7. Final Comments
Summary of the 6 research outcomes, primary evidence, lessons learnt – working instructions for Italian regional institutions.
